Khenpo Lobsang Tsephel


Khenpo Lobsang Tshephel (Lophel) is from Kham, Riwoche, Tibet. He entered the great Riwoche Monastery of Tibet in 1986. In 1990 he took the entry level vows of a novice monk. He then studied the practice, prayer and rituals of the Taklung Kagyu and Nyingma Lineages at Riwoche Monastery up until 1997. While at Riwoche, Khenpo Lophel received training in all of the Tibetan Buddhist ritual ceremonial arts. This includes: Cham, sacred ritual dance, ceremonial music, and knowledge of all of the instruments : Gyaling, Dungchen, Conch, Drilbu & Darmaru, Gna Drum, Silnyen and Romo. As well as the creation of Torma, a sacred ritual offering cake.

In 1997 Khenpo Lophel then went to Bier, India to study at the Dzongsar Monastery Shedra. Here at the Shedra he completed his studies of the thirteen major Buddhist philosophical texts and the eighteen renowned Buddhist scriptures up until 2005. During this time in 2002 he received the complete Gelong vows of a fully ordained monk from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

After completing the Dzongsar Monastery Shedra, Khenpo Lophel also studied at Sera Jey Monastery for one year. Khenpo Lophel then went to Riwoche Monastery in Nepal where he taught for one year as the Lopon. Kyabgon Phakchok Rinpoche then bestowed upon him the title of Khenpo.

Khenpo Lophel was invited to Riwoche Temple in Toronto, Ontario Canada in the summer of 2006. Here he assisted Khenpo Sonam Rinpoche and gave teachings according to the needs of the students. In 2009 Khenpo Lophel moved to Vancouver, Canada where he established The Mangala Shri Foundation.

He now resides in Vancouver and teaches Buddhism, the Tibetan Language, and Instruments for the purpose of Buddhist ceremony.
